Here you can take a virtual tour of the museum’s archives, hosted by our curator Keri Leigh, check out rare clips of Douglas Fairbanks in action, photographs, poster art and other materials from our collection.
In the days ahead, we will be posting excerpts from the 2005 documentary film The Great Swashbuckler, produced by Delta Entertainment with the assistance of the Douglas Fairbanks Museum on our YouTube channel.
This 90-minute documentary examines the life and art of Douglas Fairbanks from his childhood in Denver to stardom on the Broadway stage to becoming one of the movies’ most influential actor/producers. Also focuses heavily on his vision for the film industry and Fairbanks’ role in the founding of United Artists, The Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the Oscars, and the nation’s very first film school at the University of Southern California.
Look for updates here as each new segment becomes available; we’ll be posting them individually as a 9-part series. Or you can purchase The Great Swashbuckler on DVD (with bonus footage of the 1918 Liberty Loan Drive with Mary Pickford, Charlie Chaplin and Marie Dressler, extras, and a double-feature of two great Fairbanks films, The Three Musketeers and The Iron Mask included on this two-sided disc) in the museum’s online gift shop.
