THE DOUGLAS FAIRBANKS MUSEUM CELEBRATES OUR FIRST DECADE OF HISTORY
Many of our longtime local supporters and volunteers came out to celebrate our tenth anniversary over Labor Day weekend, gathering at the Oasis on Lake Travis just outside of Austin, Texas.
Despite the sweltering 100-degree heat, about 40 of our best friends showed up for an evening of music and dancing under the stars. The reception featured a brief speech from museum curator Keri Leigh, who told us stories of the museum’s early years and related a few humorous tales about last year’s flood that infested our building with mold and closed our doors. She excitedly spoke of the museum’s plans to reopen on May 23, 2009 (Douglas Fairbanks’ birthday) and proposed a toast for “good luck” on our next 10 years!
As we watched a lovely Texas sunset over the lake, everyone agreed it felt like a wonderful way to let go of the post-flood stresses and turn our focus forward to the future. Thanks to all of you who have continued to support silent film and this museum, we’re still here and plan to be for many more decades to come!
